SAT Math - Question of the day - 1 Nov 2016

Q. The percent increase from 5 to 12 is equal to the percent increase from 12 to what number?

Option:

a.  16.8

b.  19.0

c.   26.0

d.   28.8

Solution:

Percentage increase = (Final value - Initial Value) x 100 / Initial Value

                               =  140%

 Let's assume the number to be x if 12 is increased by 140%.

Applying the above formula again

                     140 = ( x - 12 ) x 100 / 12

     ( x - 12 ) x 100 = 140 x 12

                  x - 12 = 16.8

                        x = 28.8
