Set a Target Date for the Exam and prepare the plan

The initial step for ITIL Foundation study plan is to set up a target date for the exam. That means setting a date that you will be ready to take the ITIL Foundation exam. After scheduling a date to sit for the exam, the next step is preparing a plan for the study based on your availability and schedule. A typical ITIL Foundation exam takes around 35 to 45 hours in total. We recommend you to study 6 hours per week for 6 to 8 weeks of time depending on your schedule. It may vary week to week, but try to spend at least 6 hours of study time. Make sure that the study plan that you are preparing is as per the syllabus defined by the AXELOS.

Practice questions
Try different Practice Questions and simulation exams

The main tip for passing the ITIL Foundation exam is attempting a lot of practice questions. Try to practice the questions which are designed as per the real ITIL Foundation exam pattern. Practicing the questions as per ITIL exam pattern helps in finishing the exam on time and managing the pressure while attempting the exam. Try different simulation exams and check whether you are ready for the real exam. If you score 70% or higher, you can confidently pass the real ITIL Exam.

Spend some time on flashcards

Spend your time referring to important terms known as flashcards. These flashcards can be used as the final study material before writing the exam. Remembering these ITIL flashcards helps in answering the questions related to these definitions easily during the exam.

Answer question
Attempt Every Question

The real ITIL Foundation exam has no negative marking. So, it is always better to attempt all the questions during the exam. Even if you make a guess for a correct answer to a particular question, you will have 25% chance of being correct. If you are not sure about an answer, attempt the question by eliminating the answer options that can be wrong.

Handling Exam Questions

    Remember ITIL is a tricky exam. So, read the question carefully and more than once, sometimes you may find the answer within the question itself. Observe all the options carefully before attempting a question.

    There is some kind of questions that contain the word 'BEST' answer, then check the remaining options also instead of marking the first correct option you see.

    For the question types that contains the word MAIN purpose/objective of a stage/process, check the answer options that suit the question and then zero in on the option which is the best answer.

    For the kind of questions based on service lifecycle stages and processes within ITIL has purpose, objective, scope, and value to the business, answer the question as per the ITIL framework and not from the knowledge gained from your experience.

    Be careful with some type of questions that contain the word 'NOT', if you miss out the word 'NOT' in the question, you may submit the wrong answer.
